ENDOGENOUSLY PRODUCED CHEMILUMINESCENCE OF INNER AND OUTER TOOTH STRUCTURES: A PILOT STUDYOriginal article

Beneš P., Poplová M., Jirásek P, Havelka D., Cifra M., Vacek J.

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2025; 125(1): 5-11 | DOI: 10.51479/cspzl.2025.001

Introduction: As a result of metabolic processes, the endogenous production of chemiluminescence occurs in living biological structures, which we also refer to as biological autochemiluminescence (BAL). The generation of BAL is closely connected with oxidation processes, the formation of free radicals, and in general the redox homeostasis of the investigated biological material. BAL has previously been studied in mammalian cells and tissues. So far, however, this phenomenon has not been described in dental tissue structures. In addition to endogenously generated BAL, BAL can be exogenously induced by physical (UV radiation, mechanical damage,...

PRINCIPLES OF INTRAORAL SCANNERS AND MEASUREMENT OF THEIR ACCURACYReview

Hyšpler P., Dostálová T.

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2025; 125(1): 13-22 | DOI: 10.51479/cspzl.2025.002

Introduction and aim: A fully digital workflow is increasingly dominating our surgeries. For small prosthetic reconstructions on teeth or implants, the precision and trueness of certain intraoral scanners are not only sufficient, but significantly better than the conventional technology – dental impression/plaster model. A completely different situation arises with large reconstructions. The aim of this literature review was to summarize the current knowledge on intraoral scanner technologies and their accuracy measurements. Another aim was to evaluate devices and procedures for improving the accuracy of intraoral scans in large fixed...

Introduction and aim: The aim of the survey was to identify the endodontic referral pattern among a group of Croatian dentists and to explore if the decision to refer a patient to an endodontist varies based on demographic variables of general dental practitioners and the features of their dental practice. Methods: A questionnaire was designed that focused on demographics of the participants and their practice, the pattern of endodontic procedures they perform and the factors influencing their decision to refer. The survey was mailed to all licensed general practicing dentists with a work address in Rijeka, Croatia. Chi-square test was...

PATIENT-REPORTED OUTCOMES AND PROCEDURAL DIFFERENCES BETWEEN DENTAL IMPLANTS AND TOOTH AUTOTRANSPLANTATIONCase Report

Marton J., Kovalský T., Pokorný Z.

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2024; 124(4): 97-104 | DOI: 10.51479/cspzl.2024.005

Introduction and aim: For tooth loss in adult patients, treatment options include dental implants and autotransplantation of a tooth with complete root formation. This case report presents a patient’s experience undergoing both treatments – one tooth replaced with a dental implant and another with an autotransplanted third molar.Case description: A 49-year-old patient, concerned about masticatory function loss after the extraction of four teeth on the right side, was referred for evaluation. Examination indicated that tooth 38 required extraction, offering the opportunity to replace tooth 17 with an autotransplanted...

PROLIFERATIVE VERRUCOUS LEUKOPLAKIA: RETROSPECTIVE STUDYOriginal article

Molnárová N., Liška J., Lišková V.

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2024; 124(3): 59-68 | DOI: 10.51479/cspzl.2024.003

Introduction and aim: Retrospective study focused on clinically and biopsy-proven cases of proliferative verrucous leukoplakia (PVL). The aim of the work is to point out the necessity of correlation of oral manifestations of PVL with clinical and radiological examination of the periodontium. Methods: The study evaluated the process of PVL disease in 53 patients followed between 1994 and 2024 at the Oral Medicine Department, Dentistry Clinic, University hospital in Pilsen. Apart from anamnestic-pathological correlations, also the aspects of coincidence with other lesions of the oral mucosa, the formation of dysplasia during this aggressive...

ELECTROPHILICITY IN THE CONTEXT OF ORAL HOMEOSTASIS AND THE THEORY OF HORMESIS: BIOCHEMICAL VIEWReview

Vacek J., Beneš P., Jusku A., Dostál Z., Zatloukalová M., Jirásek P.

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2024; 124(3): 69-74 | DOI: 10.51479/cspzl.2024.002

Introduction: The oral cavity is a complex system in which mutual chemical communication occurs between tissues, microbiota, and components of saliva and food. This paper focuses on hormetic effects and electrophilic compounds, which can play a role in defense mechanisms against oxidative stress and inflammatory processes. Hormetic effects, induced by sublethal or subtoxic stressors, can activate repair mechanisms and enhance tissue resistance to damage. Methods: The analysis was conducted through searches in three electronic databases: Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus. Our research focused on studies published between 2000 and 2023...

EARLY CHILDHOOD CARIES – EPIDEMIOLOGY, ETIOLOGY, RISK FACTORS, COMPLICATIONS AND PREVENTIONReview

Kovalčík A., Kamínková P., Miklasová M.

Čes. stomatol. Prakt. zub. lék. (Czech Dental Journal) 2024; 124(2): 37-44 | DOI: 10.51479/cspzl.2023.011

Introduction and aim: Dental caries in preschool-age children is a serious problem of modern society with a high prevalence. Early Childhood Caries (ECC) is defined as the presence of one or more cavitated or noncavitated carious lesions, teeth extracted due to caries or teeth treated with filling therapy in children under the age of 71 months. Although it is a preventable disease with known causes, it is the most common chronic disease in children. It substantially affects the quality of life of children and their parents and represents a burden on public health. This condition requires professional care, but it is often left with no therapy....

Introduction and aim: The presented case study documents the course of diagnosis and treatment of plasma cell neoplasia of the lower jaw in a 79-years-old female patient. The aim is to highlight the possibility of plasmacytoma manifestation in the differential diagnosis of jawbone lesions and to emphasize the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation, in this case between the dentoalveolar/maxillofacial surgeon and the haematooncologist.Case description: The patient was first examined at our facility in November 2023 upon the request of a general dental practitioner due to recurrent difficulties following extraction of the...
